Council schedules joint public hearings for Walmart subdivision and crematorium

The Planning Commission recommended council set joint public hearings on two pending land-use matters, and Council approved both motions at the May 12 meeting.
Planning Commission Administrator Matthew Bright told the council that the Walmart subdivision is proposed in a B2 district and would proceed as a subdivision; he said there is no rezoning associated with the preliminary plat and that Wise County zoning will inspect individual buildings. Council then approved a motion (Tyler Hughes moved; Robert Bloomer seconded) to hold a joint public hearing on June 9 at 6:30 p.m. to consider the preliminary plat for the Walmart subdivision.
Council also approved a motion (Adam Harris moved; Robert Bloomer seconded) to hold a joint public hearing on July 7 at 6:30 p.m. for the Holding Funeral Home crematorium proposal. Both motions carried unanimously (Ayes: Bloomer, Gilley, Harris, Hollinger, Hughes, Johnson, Lyke).
The hearings will give the public and adjacent jurisdictions an opportunity to comment before the council or related bodies take final action.
