Residents press council on speeding, inoperable vehicles, sewer taps and playground needs

Several residents raised safety and infrastructure concerns during the public‑comment period. James Terrell told Council he found the January meeting “the most interesting, informative, and involved council meeting he has attended” and asked the council to address speeding, noise, the 2nd Amendment Sanctuary issue, county tax concerns and the town’s inoperable‑vehicle enforcement; he requested that Jimmy McElrath be invited to the next meeting to explain enforcement actions.

Jeff Fleenor proposed a new artificial‑turf playground with accessible swings and offered a $2,000 personal donation; he also asked that fire hydrants be added when planned water‑line extensions reach his neighborhood following a recent house fire that required tanker trucks. Tammy Creed asked for a map or blueprint of sewer lines at her address and said she would be visited by Town Manager Stephen Lawson. Matt Bright, who runs the Planning Commission meetings but has no vote, told Council that the commission had considered social supports when forwarding the camping ordinance and raised Pearl Avenue traffic safety, suggesting two 72‑inch speed tables priced at $70 each as a possible solution. Councilmen Adam Harris and W. Turk Hollinger said they would schedule another Public Safety Committee meeting to pursue these concerns.
