Council hears progress on water-loss, sewer-shed and Proctor Street sidewalk projects

At the May 12 meeting Matthew Lane, the town engineer, provided a multi-item infrastructure update. "System Wide Water Loss Improvements Project Phase III has been designed and is waiting on a parity review from Rural Development and the Town audit need completion so that VRA can approve advertising that Project," he said, and added the Ballad Hospital sewer-shed improvements have completed survey work and will move into preliminary design once audit questions are resolved.
On streets and pedestrian infrastructure Lane said Proctor Street sidewalk plans are "100% complete with advertisement to start in July with a 6–8-month construction schedule." He also reported that Sunrise Villages preliminary design is completed and hydraulics work will start with plans scheduled for submittal to VDH by the next council meeting.
Council members asked questions about timelines and durability of planned work; no votes were taken on the design items themselves—the items were presented for information and to align staff and council on procurement timing and coordination with state agencies.
