Planning commission continues Medical Lake comprehensive-plan hearing to Aug. 27

The Medical Lake Planning Commission voted to continue the public hearing on the city’s comprehensive-plan periodic update to August 27 to allow staff to incorporate outstanding comments from the Washington State Department of Commerce and to expand community outreach.
City planner Lisa, who presented the staff report, told commissioners the city has received noncompetitive grant funding that covers roughly 2.5 years of work and that the original deadline of 06/30/2026 was extended by six months. "So we did get the 6 month extension," she said, explaining that the extra time will be used to incorporate new state legislation and agency feedback before bringing the plan back for adoption.
Lisa summarized the plan as a complete rewrite intended to guide growth, infrastructure and community development through 2046, and said staff will use the continuation to solicit more public input and to finalize any policy adjustments Commerce requires. Commissioners asked procedural questions about packet pagination and impact-fees timing before approving the continuation motion by voice vote (4 ayes).
