Elgin School Board approves 2025–27 Integrated Plan; adds high-school counselor and early literacy investments

The Elgin School District Board approved the 2025–27 update to the district’s Integrated Plan on April 21, recording the motion as MOTION: Khirenda; 2nd: Elliana; AYES: 5 NOES: 0 ABSTAIN: 0. The plan page in the packet outlines outcomes and strategies across early literacy, student access, and career-connected learning for the next biennium.

The Integrated Plan highlights a new early-literacy focus (K–3) with supplemental programming such as high-dosage tutoring and extended-learning opportunities, and identifies curriculum adoption priorities in ELA and science. The packet lists specific staffing and budget items for 2025–27, including funding to hire a licensed Jr/Sr High School counselor: “Licensed mental health/guidance counselor @ Jr/Sr HS salary” (budget lines in the plan). The narrative states, “Elgin is a community that loves its kids and schools,” and frames investments as efforts to remove barriers to participation and to build staff capacity for data-driven intervention.

The plan also records targeted investments for instructional materials, data-tracking tools (i-Ready diagnostics), after-school and summer learning, and safety/capital work.
