Graduation date under review after state track scheduling conflict

District staff raised a scheduling conflict between the district calendar and state athletic championship dates that could leave seniors out of school for as many as eight days before graduation. "We have it on the May 30 when we would normally have our graduation. OSA moved state track through that weekend," the staff member said, noting that track and some state-level events often fall on the same dates as traditional graduation.
Because the district recently shifted the school calendar by a week, staff suggested surveying senior families to assess whether a one-week later graduation (June 6) would better accommodate athletes and family travel plans. "I would like to put a survey out to the parents to see what kind of feedback we get," the staff member said; the board supported sending the survey and agreed to consider a formal motion at the next meeting after reviewing parents' responses.
