Echo board pushes back on proposed football alignment, plans alternative league map

Board staff described a recent athletics alignment proposal from OSA that would require Echo to move to 8-man football on the basis of a 61-player threshold. "They said, okay, Echo. You need to bump up to 8 man," the staff member said, and added the district disputed the co-op counts used in the placement decision. The staff member said he compiled a four-league plan as an alternative to limit travel and preserve more local nonleague games.
The board discussed near-term consequences for wrestling (which may need immediate reclassification) and the potential longer-term impacts on baseball and softball if team sizes change or co-op arrangements dissolve. A motion later on the agenda formalized resolution of one co-op arrangement (track/wrestling) and moved the district toward collective agreements to manage classification and postseason eligibility.
