Ware County adopts $54.49 million FY2027 budget, includes 5% COLA for employees

The Ware County Board of Commissioners approved Resolution 2026-08 adopting the Fiscal Year 2027 budget totaling $54,486,093.00. County Manager James Shubert clarified that the total includes special funds such as SPLOST and that “the actual operating budget is $34,415,351, which is up $1.9 million from Fiscal Year 2026.” He also confirmed that a 5% COLA for county employees is factored into the budget and that “the full 5% would take effect as of July 1.”
Commissioner Barry Cox asked about whether the COLA would be split into two installments as it had been the previous year; Shubert said the full increase is budgeted to take effect July 1. Accounting Supervisor Beverly York reported year-to-date revenue collections at about 85% and expenditures at 97% through May, and said she anticipates the year will close based on expected monies. The motion to adopt the budget was made by Commissioner Leonard Burse and seconded by Commissioner Jon Tindall; a roll call vote recorded ayes and the resolution carried.
