The Social Service Grants Committee approved revised award recommendations at its July 24 meeting, voting to accept United Way of Kaw Valley’s updated allocations and authorize staff to notify applicants and forward the package to the city council for final approval on Aug. 1. Councilwoman Ortiz called the motion and Laurie McGee seconded; both members voted aye.
Brett Martin of United Way of Kaw Valley told the committee the spreadsheet revision reflects appeals that were approved for Shawnee County Medical Society and Foundation Health Access and that the "cutoff is at 88 percent." He said the allocation method used the percentage of each organization's request for those at the cutoff and then divided remaining dollars between the two organizations, bringing the available pool to "$491,009.00." Councilwoman Ortiz praised staff outreach, saying she "wanna commend you for taking time with those applicants… they were very happy with your explanation."
