Mayor Johnny D. Stevens invited Aberdeen Visitor Bureau Director Tina Robbins to brief the board on tourism and events. Robbins, who noted she is celebrating 16 years in the job, listed upcoming events including a Backpack Giveaway at Freshley's on July 10, an Alzheimer's Walk on July 11, Movies at Elkin Theatre, and weekly cycling and running clubs at Blue Bluff.
Robbins reported the two-day Blue and White Festival drew "approximately 6,400," which she said made for "more than $100,000 splash on the local economy." The board approved dates for the 2027 festival (June 25-26, 2027) and authorized a $1,000 donation transfer from the Aberdeen Electric Department to the festival account. The board also approved use of the Aberdeen Park Recreation Gym on July 27 for a free back-to-school haircut event.
