Residents and veterans urge approval of Parkview Middle School memorial; commission recommends monument plan

Tim Pluri, identified as a veteran and organizer of the Veterans Memorial Project, told the commission the proposed memorial at Parkview Middle School would provide a daily reminder of service and a gathering place for Memorial Day and Veterans Day events. "This memorial is about more than stone stealer landscaping. It's about honoring service members that have served the country and ensuring that their sacrifices are remembered by future generations," he said.

Planner staff described the monument as a modest modification to the previously approved Parkview expansion hardscape and recommended approval of the drawings. Andy Wagner, the Director of Facilities (school), said the memorial location would not interfere with day-to-day school safety protocols because it is outside playground areas and that parking lots adjacent to the site are open to the public. Commissioner (speaker 9) moved to recommend PC Resolution 2026-11; the motion carried by voice vote. Staff noted if further clarification about school-day access were needed, the Director of Facilities could consult the school board.
