DeKalb County Human Services outlines programs as needs rise and budgets tighten

DeKalb County Human Services staff told an audience the department is the county’s connection hub for residents seeking help with utilities, housing, work and food security. "Human services serves, connects, improves the quality of life, in DeKalb County," said Nicole St. Cyr, one of the presenters for the session.
St. Cyr described multiple divisions — youth services, grants, partnerships, information and referral, and a transportation unit — that refer residents to more than 600 community partners. "We actually administer a grant program for nonprofit organizations and we manage state and federal grants awarded to our department," she said, noting the department also maintains an online resource guide and runs lunch-and-learn series.
Why it matters: presenters said demand for services is growing while budgets are shrinking, increasing pressure on the county’s role as a referral hub rather than a direct provider. Staff offered to follow up with attendees on specific program eligibility and to provide more information after the meeting.
