County told insurance premiums will rise slightly after appraisals; workers' comp claims fall

Knapp Miller Brown reported to Washington County officials that the county's workers' compensation claims declined from $100,943.00 to $98,535.00 and the current loss ratio sits at 23 percent. Officials were told the county's commercial property insurance premium will increase by 1.01% for 2026, raising the premium from $90,921.00 to $92,452.00.
Commissioner Tony Cardwell moved to accept the new premium rates and Commissioner Todd Ewen seconded; the board approved the change. County staff also noted that Buckland Appraisals' updated replacement-cost figures for county buildings rose roughly 4 percent and will inform future insurance budgeting.
