Union County Council removes Buffalo Fire District member, appoints replacement and reappoints workforce board seat
Summary
Council voted unanimously June 16 to remove Les Gibson from the Buffalo Fire District Board, appoint Mark Cathcart to that board, and reappoint Jay Coffer to the Upstate Workforce Investment Board (Union seat) for a term expiring June 30, 2026.
During the regular meeting Council addressed board membership changes. Vice Chair David Sinclair moved to remove Les Gibson from the Buffalo Fire District Board; Councilperson Annie Smith seconded and the motion carried with all members voting in favor.
Vice Chair Sinclair then moved to appoint Mark Cathcart to the Buffalo Fire District Board; Councilman John Glenn seconded and the appointment also passed unanimously. Separately, Councilman Danny Bright moved to reappoint Jay Coffer to the Upstate Workforce Investment Board as the Union seat (Coffer currently serves as the technical education representative); Vice Chair Sinclair seconded and the reappointment carried with all members voting in favor. Coffer’s current term expires June 30, 2026.
