Sugar Grove board approves contracts for hydrant repainting and traffic-control services

The Village Board approved multiple procurement resolutions July 7, including an annual hydrant repainting contract and a traffic-control/striping agreement for school-zone and municipal work. Brian Merkel presented the hydrant repainting program, explaining staff inspects and tests hydrants for operability, then coordinates repainting. "What we do is we go through and test each fire hydrant to make sure it's operational," Merkel said. He also explained the work is specialized and the village often receives only a single proposal because few firms offer the service.
Merkel also described the traffic-control and striping work, which uses a county contract to secure better pricing and focuses on school zones such as Main Street School, municipal areas and selected neighborhoods. The board moved, seconded and approved the resolutions by roll call. Staff noted a prior parking-lot stripe repainting issue and that some striping funds were reallocated to update handicap parking stalls and markings.
