WRA updates: board nomination, Denholm renderings, Midtown Mall, policing and financials

At the July 23 meeting the Worcester Redevelopment Authority received several status updates from staff.
Staff said the city manager nominated Candy Marrow Carlson to fill a vacant WRA board seat; she will be eligible to vote once the city council confirms the appointment. On Denholm, staff told the board they expect to receive promised renderings next week and will present them at the August meeting. Regarding the Midtown Mall and urban revitalization plan, staff offered to gather inspection and public-safety information and to invite the property owner to a future meeting if the board desires.
On public-safety and Union Station operations, staff said incidents were down in June and that the authority-funded police details and the downtown substation remain in place; staff noted coordination with human services, the Worcester Police Department, and plans for a day resource center expected to be online in about six months. The financial update for June 16 to July 20, 2026 reported total expenditures of $286,759, mostly related to Union Station operations.
Staff also said community input sessions for the R & B property will be hosted at the Worcester Public Library in August, and a fee-direct site assessment request to the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission had been submitted for building-materials review.
