Staff member said the city secured a rezoning grant and is assembling a committee to guide an update to the zoning code aimed at making it easier to build small‑scale housing and accessory dwelling units. "We're gonna be putting together, like, a committee to help guide the zoning update," the staff member said, noting the update could include an affordable‑housing overlay and form‑based code elements.
Committee member 1 and others flagged specific barriers in the current code, including prohibitions on additional dwelling units, green‑space requirements per unit and historic‑district constraints that can complicate affordable housing. "You can't have additional dwelling units...you can't turn your garage into an apartment," Committee member 1 said, calling attention to existing carriage houses and back buildings as potential housing stock the code currently prevents converting.
