The Chair opened a detailed discussion about trees and sidewalks, saying the committee should develop principles and decide next steps for proposed sidewalk guidance and any ordinance work. Committee members noted an initial report proposes general design guidelines and cited examples from other municipalities.
Committee member (S2) said the group is “working with Earth's Law to figure out ways, to integrate more, like, nature based solutions into sidewalk design,” and recommended a sit-down with planning and legal staff before drafting ordinance language. The Chair asked members to prepare suggestions and to consider whether to involve the city council and legal staff for formal review. Members emphasized the need for clear, site-specific guidance (height limits, vegetation rules and ADA compliance) and agreed to invite staff to a future meeting for technical input. The group did not take a vote; members directed staff and volunteers to compile a short set of next steps and possible calendar items for council coordination.
