Humboldt adopts South Dakota local-government records retention schedule

The Humboldt City Board voted unanimously on Jan. 26, 2026, to adopt the 'SD Local Government, General Records Retention and Destruction Schedule Manual for the City of Humboldt.' President Ritchy Griepp moved the motion; Julien Gambs seconded and the board approved it on a roll-call vote with all members voting aye.
Finance Officer Kristie Ellis said she completed a review of city utility and general compensation ordinances and reviewed applicable sections of the South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL) relating to the Natural Gas Board. Ellis said she will consult the city attorney for clarification and prepare corrections before sending updates to American Legal for codification.
