Supervisor Granville told the board the finance committee continues to recruit a finance director while interim duties are being handled by internal staff and consultants, including a recently hired former city finance director paid from savings from the open position.
"As of the end of June, collections were just under $4,200,000," Granville said, and monthly collections are trending slightly above last year, keeping the county on track to meet the $8,150,000 sales‑tax budget target for the year. Granville also reported the human services department faces an estimated 2025 deficit of about $274,000 driven largely by mental‑health commitments and out‑of‑home placements; Human Services Director Lori Furie has applied for two 2026 grants totaling $160,000, the board was told.
Granville praised staff including Melissa Deaner, Amy Koshian and former employee Carrie Berry for covering finance functions during the vacancy and said a CLA auditor and outside consultant are assisting with the 2027 budget work.
The finance committee scheduled its next meeting for Aug. 10 and will continue review of staffing and revenue forecasts.
