Supervisor Marsh and others said the veteran service officer recommended the reorganization to free up remaining veteran service officers to focus on direct benefits work and that the new role would handle administrative tasks.
Supervisor Zimmer said, "We who are veterans rely frequently and heavily on the veteran service officer," and expressed concern that reducing a direct‑service slot could harm veterans who need hands‑on help. Supporters countered that two veteran service officers would remain and that the benefits specialist would streamline administrative duties so officers can focus on claims and benefits access.
The clerk recorded the vote approving resolution 2026‑2028‑33; the personnel and veterans offices will proceed with reallocation and posting or reclassification steps for the vacant slot.
