The Town of Canton Board of Aldermen/women on July 11 approved a test run to produce and sell historical vehicle license plates after residents asked the town to make previously active designs available. Alderman Hamlett moved for the test run and Alderwoman Mull seconded; the motion carried.
Residents Jed Godfrey and Roland Rhodes of Candler asked the Board to consider selling the plates and noted that Enka sold a similar run for $20 and had produced 500 that sold out. Mayor Smathers said the Board must approve sales and advised against yellow-and-black plates, noting three color schemes under consideration: white/red, green/white and black/white. The Board instructed staff to return the item as new business and noted that an administrative letter will be required to proceed.
