The Valparaiso Community Schools Board approved a change to the high school finals calendar for the 2026–27 school year that converts the semester’s last full student day on Dec. 15, 2026 and May 23, 2027 into 0.5 student days. Dr. Tabak told trustees the proposal aligns high school finals with elementary and middle schedules and creates one full exam day plus two half-exam days to allow for project-based assessments and improved attendance.
Trustees asked how make-up tests and transportation would be handled and were told staff will work with teachers and transportation to provide study tables and extended time where needed. After discussion a motion to approve the calendar adjustment was made, seconded and passed by voice vote.
