Valparaiso superintendent highlights student named to U.S. U-16 team and new communications hire

Superintendent Dr. Brian Smith used his superintendent’s report to spotlight a Valparaiso High School junior, Elon Orico, who has been selected for the U.S. U-16 women’s soccer team and has verbally committed to UCLA. "She has been selected to represent The United States on the U-16 women's soccer team," Smith said, noting Orico’s club history and academic strengths.
Smith also announced the district had posted a director of communications position, which he described as cost-neutral because it will allow the district to reduce outside communication and printing services. He praised recent emergency drills coordinated with the police and fire departments and thanked staff and first responders for their participation. "Huge hats off to our own, Dr. Barb Knecht, for working so diligently with our first responders and putting together emergency drills last week," he said.
