School representative outlines changes to sports-physical requirements and event medical planning

The school representative briefed the board on several school-health items, including vision-screening dates, sports-physical scheduling and new state requirements for coaches and event medical planning.
Megan said vision screening is scheduled for Sept. 9 and that sports physicals will be available in clinic starting July and August. She explained a state recommendation (MHSA) to require sports physicals every other year, with a one-page interim form for off years, and noted that individual school boards may still require annual physicals. "Vision screening's already scheduled September 9, so that's good," Megan said.
The representative described additional state requirements: annual online mental-health training for coaches, a new cardiac-arrest information/signature page in sports paperwork, and a required pre-event medical meeting to document roles for coaches, officials and ambulance staff at events. Megan said the school’s athletic director (AD) will likely be responsible for organizing and documenting those pre-event meetings.
Board members discussed implementation logistics and timing; no formal policy change by the board was recorded during the meeting.
