Health department reports Alzheimer’s ‘Bold Mini’ grant activities for seniors

The health officer reported local activities funded by a Montana Alzheimer's/dementia 'Bold Mini' grant, describing recent and planned programs for older adults.
Tylene said the grant supported a sun-catcher craft in May that drew about seven participants and a June balancing-exercise session with about eight attendees. "It's called a bold mini grant through the Montana, Alzheimer's dementia program," Tylene said, and noted she has used some grant money for door prizes to encourage participation.
Upcoming offerings include bingo on the 26th and a July 9 lunch-and-learn on brain health presented by Cindy Martin of the Alzheimer's Association chapter of Montana; organizers also hope to add painting classes. The programs are being held at the senior center and, when appropriate, at the hospital conference room to ease cleanup for arts activities.
Staff characterized the activities as well received and said the grant-funded events improve social interaction and mental-health supports for older residents. No new funding decisions were made at the meeting.
