A tobacco-prevention staff member briefed the board on outreach efforts, local enforcement and trends in e-cigarette accessibility.
The staff member said the local coalition met June 3 and will next meet on Sept. 2, and noted one quit-line call this fiscal year and no Clean Indoor Air Act violations. On youth vaping, the staff member said prices have fallen and products are more appealing: "E cigarettes prices have dropped dramatically and have become more accessible to young people," the speaker said, adding that devices now offer higher nicotine strengths and greater affordability.
The staff previewed distribution of new no-smoking/no-vaping signage for courthouse doors and public facilities and listed community events, including the Dawson County Fair (July 23–25), Prairie County Fair (Aug. 6–8) and Weibo County Fair (Aug. 20–22). The speaker said signage can be ordered online or supplied by the health department as needed.
Board members recorded the outreach items for local coordination; no regulatory action or enforcement changes were announced during the meeting.
