Board hears capital-project updates: gutters, drains, gym lights, sprinklers and roofing change-order risk

District staff reviewed multiple capital projects: gym-light installation (completed), proposed gutters to reduce trenching, a drainage bid from Cash Construction, sprinkler-system options, and an elementary roof replacement encountering framing/fastener issues that may raise costs.
Staff updated the board on several capital projects across the campus. The recently installed gym lights (about $15,000) were reported complete and dimmable for different sports. For drainage behind the elementary, staff described two approaches: full trenching around the building (costly and risky because of underground utilities) or adding gutters and targeted drains routed to existing pipes; one complete bid to date came from Cash Construction (Darren Berry).
On the roof replacement, staff reported contractors found substrate and framing conditions that might prevent meeting the 110-mph wind standard for schools without additional stringers and fasteners. Staff said the contractor proposed inserting steel stringers and additional fasteners to meet the requirement, which will increase the change-order cost; no final change-order amount was available at the meeting. For sprinklers, staff discussed inverting irrigation away from building footprints and the tradeoffs between a campus-wide replacement and an elementary-only approach.
