Council authorizes $300,000 Brownfields Opportunity Area application for Erie Boulevard/downtown

The Rome Common Council on July 22 approved Resolution 95 authorizing the mayor to submit an application to the New York State Department of State for Brownfields Opportunity Area site assessments covering Erie Boulevard and downtown Rome, seeking $300,000. The resolution was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Bobby O'Brien, speaking during the public comment period, listed Resolution 95 among items he asked the council to support and said the Brownfields funds would help remediate properties listed on the posted agenda. "This grant will provide funds to remediate the properties listed as part of the posted online agenda," O'Brien said.
The council took no substantive debate on the application at the meeting; the authorization permits the mayor's office to prepare and submit the Brownfields application. If awarded, the funds would be used for site assessments identified in the application materials; any remediation or capital work would require separate approvals and appropriations by the council.
