Franklin Township superintendent gives emotional farewell after 11 years leading district

Superintendent John Rivali, who the board recognized in a formal resolution for his 11 years leading the Franklin Township Public School District, delivered his final superintendent report and a farewell to the board and community at the June 23 meeting.
“After near 38 years in public education, including 24 years as the superintendent, I can honestly say without a doubt that serving Franklin has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” Rivali said, thanking staff, families and the board. The resolution read earlier by a board member noted Rivali’s role in the district’s pandemic response, the creation of the Warrior Health Center and expansion of equity and preschool programs.
Board members offered extended tributes. Eric Siegel, president of the Franklin Township supervisors’ association, told the board Rivali “was a builder and maker of things,” praising the superintendent’s leadership during the pandemic and infrastructure projects. Board member Nick read a resolution honoring longtime principal Rod Brundage and applauded Rivali’s record of achievement; others, including Bill Grippo and Laurie, described Rivali’s mix of operational skill and student-centered focus.
Rivali closed the meeting by thanking the community and staff and said he looks forward to following the district’s future work. The board noted that Dr. Dan Lagarin has been appointed as interim superintendent until Dr. Jamille Maroon (hired to begin in September) assumes the role.
