The committee conducted two interviews on April 24, 2026, with Brown & Brown (the incumbent) and WHA Insurance, and then unanimously recommended retaining Brown & Brown. Director Ashley Proctor moved to accept that recommendation; Chair Michael Summers seconded. The motion carried, with Summers, Proctor and Director Amanda Page voting to approve and Director Keri Lopez casting the lone dissent.
Lopez said her opposition was grounded in concerns about the procurement process and stated that the district should have reposted the RFP and restarted the evaluation. The board record shows the selection committee and legal counsel supported evaluating all timely proposals using the original criteria and scoring matrix before making a recommendation.
The appointment takes effect July 1, 2026, under the conditions set forth by the selection committee and the district's Request for Proposal. The special meeting was adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
