Council amends Railroad Advisory Committee rules to reflect economic focus and reporting

City Attorney Jared Reid presented Resolution 16-44, a proposed amendment to Resolution 12-51 (the 2015 resolution that established the Railroad Advisory Committee), noting the committee's practices over the past decade diverge from the original language and that the proposed change reflects a more economic-focused makeup and reporting structure. "This was developed in 2015 because the railroad committee at that time wasn't really reporting to council," Reid said, adding the amendment will make committee procedures consistent with how the group has operated in recent years.
Council members discussed the need to preserve confidentiality for proprietary business information and to avoid unnecessary executive sessions while ensuring the city manager and council maintain appropriate oversight. Council member (S4) said the change will allow the committee and staff to handle business-sensitive information "properly, respecting the businesses that we're working with." A motion to approve Resolution 16-44 passed by voice vote.
