Council backs community room and council-chambers improvements, staff to proceed

Mayor Jerry Cole told the council he directed the chambers move on a three-month trial and prefers the current location. He proposed walling off the former downstairs break room for records storage and making the remainder of the space available to the Columbia Economic Team; City Administrator W. Scott Jorgensen said the Rainier Chamber of Commerce could use the space as a physical location.
Councilor Paul Langner said residents have told him they like the new chambers but that the "audio quality could be improved." Councilor Robert duPlessis requested adding an emergency exit. Council agreed by consensus to have staff move forward with the proposed improvements and to investigate additional PA speakers.
