Caldwell County, Cajun's Mountain dedicate new EMS base to shorten response times

Randy Church, chair of the Caldwell County Board of Commissioners, opened the ceremony to dedicate a new emergency medical services base in Cajun's Mountain and thanked local officials and contractors for completing a project he said began more than 20 years ago.
“This building is more than a station. It’s a promise to every resident that when they call for help, the skilled professionals ... will answer with compassion, excellency and urgency,” Church told the audience in opening remarks. He recognized county commissioners, the town mayor and multiple fire-rescue partners for their roles in bringing the facility to fruition.
Mayor Bonnie Simpson said the town donated parkland in 2008 with the intention that the county would build an EMS base, and she described the dedication as the result of persistent advocacy. Simpson cited survival statistics for sudden cardiac arrest and stroke to underscore the benefits of faster ambulance access, and she praised county and town leaders for the partnership that produced the station.
Officials closed the ceremony with a group photo and invited attendees to tour the new facility. The station will serve northern Caldwell County and, officials said, is intended to reduce travel times to advanced life support for residents across several nearby base districts.
