Trappe moves ENR wastewater upgrade into design-and-bid phase

The Trappe Town Council voted Sept. 4 to authorize the next design-and-bid phase of the town's enhanced nutrient removal (ENR) upgrade at the wastewater treatment plant.
Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan presented an amendment from engineering firm GMB that would allow GMB to perform engineering design, issue bid documents, meet with contractors, respond to bidding questions and recommend next steps to the council. "This amendment would allow GMB to proceed with designing the upgrade and putting the services out to bid," the minutes state.
After discussion Commissioner Newnam moved to put this phase out to bid and to request a more strict schedule so the project can remain on the current timeline; Commissioner Chase seconded and the motion was approved unanimously. Council also authorized a separate RFP to replace and rebuild the treatment-plant bar/filter screen, noting that work could proceed now without affecting grant funds tied to the ENR project.
The Council directed staff to return with bidding documents and a recommended schedule for contractor selection and construction oversight.
