Trappe council agrees to seek MDE approval to accept Lakeside treated effluent

Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan reported the Lakeside wastewater treatment plant is in start-up and currently cannot spray discharge; as a result Lakeside has been trucking treated effluent to Hurlock for additional processing. The Lakeside developer requested Trappe accept its treated effluent at the Trappe plant; Attorney Ryan and Superintendent Steve Callahan told the Council the volume would be less than Lakeside's permitted 30,000 gallons per day.
After discussing control of incoming flow and MDE approval requirements, Commissioner Michael Sullivan moved that the Town send a letter to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) requesting approval for Lakeside to send treated effluent to Trappe's lagoon. Commissioner Chase seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
