Putney taps Highway Capital Reserve Fund to buy two replacement trucks

The Putney Selectboard approved two expenditures from the Highway Capital Reserve Fund at its May 13 meeting to replace aging highway vehicles. The board authorized spending $134,382 for a Ford F600 one-ton cab-and-chassis and $300,768 for a ten-wheel tandem truck.
Highway Superintendent Lenny Howard described the replacement need, noting one truck has 57,207 miles and that the cost estimates do not yet account for any trade-in or auction allowance. Town Manager Karen Astley explained the town contributes $175,000 per year into the Highway Capital Reserve Fund and reported a current surplus balance of $324,918.58.
Both motions were made by Aileen Tulloch and seconded by Rebecca "Bex" Slattery; each motion passed unanimously. The board discussed trade-in timing, vehicle useful-life policy (ten vs. twelve years), and directed the Treasurer to begin tracking maintenance costs for individual trucks beginning in July.
