Commission debates sidewalk project gate boxes; drafts agreement to let contractor open sewer manholes

Cody Boisvert, the town water operator, arrived at 6:30 p.m. and said he had missed a May 26 sidewalk weekly meeting "but has since added all future meetings to his calendar." Town Planner Robyn Payson reported that water and sewer issues were discussed in the meeting and said there are 10 curb-stop gate boxes "and the Town has to pay for those 100%." KV Partners' Mike Vignale told the commission he had not heard of that payment arrangement.
Commissioners and Boisvert confirmed that placing gate boxes over curb stops in pavement is a common practice because it makes shutoff valves accessible without digging and prevents debris from filling the access channel. Separately, the sidewalk contractor, John H. Lyman & Sons, Inc., asked about installing a catch basin directly over the sewer main; the commission said that is not allowed unless the project's resident engineer provides written information and pictures so the commission can review the proposal.
