Child nutrition supervisor outlines wellness policy tri‑annual review and site surveys

Joanne Lejeune, the district’s child nutrition supervisor, told the committee the district is performing its triennial review of the wellness policy, last updated in January 2024. Principals will complete wellness surveys this school year and a committee including administrators, parents, students, staff and community members will review results and identify areas for improvement.
"The wellness policy... establishes and promotes student health and well-being and ability for the students to learn," Lejeune said, describing the statutory purpose of the policy and the district process to use site surveys to rank schools and set priorities. Committee members congratulated Lejeune on her role and asked staff to report back with clarified dates for operational items such as the start date for whole milk service.
Members also encouraged Lejeune to solicit input from parents who used the district’s summer feeding program to ensure under-served families are represented in the review. Lejeune said she will convene the committee after the principals’ surveys are returned and work with school teams to update the policy and follow statutory requirements.
