Committee renews Anchor Foursquare Church lease at former elementary school while property is appraised

The committee approved a six-month lease renewal for Anchor Foursquare Church at the former Grama Cayenne Elementary School, retroactive to 07/01/2026 through 12/31/2026, with the arrangement converting to month-to-month after 12/31/2026 at the same price, terms and conditions. The committee stated the renewal was intended to allow the church to remain in the building while the district completes an appraisal and pursues a sale process.

Daisy Sherry, speaking on behalf of the church and identifying herself by name at the meeting, thanked the committee and said the church is working to secure funding to purchase the property and obtain bids for repairs: "We know that the building is more than just a place of worship. It's a we wanna be a resource and a a mark in the community," she said. Board members expressed support for the church's efforts to secure the building permanently and confirmed the district would continue the lease month to month until a buyer is found. The chair called for objections and, hearing none, declared the motion passed.
