The Terrebonne Parish committee voted to accept the highest bid meeting specifications for hunting and trapping leases on Section 16 lands for the term 08/04/2026 through 06/30/2036 and authorized the purchasing department to re-advertise sections that received no bids or for which leases were surrendered. The motion also granted the superintendent or the board president authority to sign all necessary lease documents.
A district staff member who spoke during public comment said the current parcel had been surrendered and was being re-advertised: "So this is 1 of, our leases that was given up, and that's why we re advertise bids again," she said. She added that the previous successful bid for this particular section had been $16,003.77 and described the new offer as a little lower but still a solid bid. Vice Chairman Matt Ford asked whether lease terms permit hunting and trapping; staff said they contacted the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to obtain the number of tags that apply to each lease and proposed including tag counts in future bid postings.
The committee recorded the motion and second as announced by the chair and, with no objections, the chair declared the motion passed.
