The Buildings, Food Service and Transportation committee unanimously recommended waiving district facility fees so the South Louisiana Center for the Arts (SOLA) can stage its fall youth production, Seussical Kids, at H.L. Bourgeois auditorium. The committee motion was moved and seconded and approved with no objections.
Britney Kucheova, president of SOLA, told the committee the program targets children ages 8–12 and stressed the group’s educational mission: “We are a nonprofit youth theater organization dedicated to providing affordable performing arts education throughout the parish.” Kucheova said many students are from Terrebonne Parish and noted SOLA received a similar waiver in 2025.
The committee’s approval is conditional: SOLA must reimburse the Terrebonne Parish School District for custodial costs, carry required insurance, demonstrate nonprofit status and obtain the school principal’s approval before the reservation is finalized. Committee members welcomed the production as enrichment for students; one member said the district should support organizations that bring appropriate, child-centered programming to district facilities.
The production’s load-in is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2026, with performances on Nov. 13–15, 2026. The district recorded the motion and ordered that the waiver be granted subject to the stated conditions.
