The Waukesha City Finance Committee approved a grant-funded vehicle lease for a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDA) task force officer on May 27, 2025.
Lieutenant Ian Dikarski, introducing the item, said the program currently has one task force officer assigned and that the officer's vehicle expenses are paid through the HIDA grant. "It is about 6 it's a $6,000 per year, that goes towards that vehicle," Dikarski said, adding that the city budgets roughly $500 per month and is fully reimbursed: "The feds." Committee members clarified that the lease covers a single vehicle and that the prior three-year lease is expiring, which prompted the renewal request.
Following the staff briefing, the Chair moved to approve the lease; the motion was seconded and approved by unanimous voice vote. The committee recorded that the lease would not result in net city costs because federal reimbursements cover the payments.
The approval allows staff to proceed with the replacement lease and continue federal billing under the HIDA grant. The committee did not set further conditions or amendments to the lease during the discussion.
