The Taft City Council on July 21 adopted resolutions allowing the Kern County tax collector to collect sewer and standby sewer charges for vacant commercial buildings. City Manager Craig Jones described the action as parallel to the refuse‑collection resolutions and said it is authorized under Health and Safety Code section 5473.
The council opened the public hearing, heard no testimony, and adopted the resolutions. Mayor North announced the measure passed on a 4–0 vote; the council also found the action exempt from CEQA per the staff report.
