The Taft City Council voted unanimously on July 21 to adopt two resolutions authorizing the Kern County tax collector to collect refuse and street‑sweeping charges for a vacant commercial property. City Manager Craig Jones told the council the action is authorized under Health and Safety Code section 5473 and recommended the city adopt the resolutions before forwarding them to the county for collection.
The council opened a public hearing on the proposal, heard no public comment, and then moved and seconded the resolutions. Mayor North announced the roll call and the measure passed 4–0. The council also found the activity is not a project under the California Environmental Quality Act, citing the CEQA guidelines cited in the staff report.
