City recreation staff say senior programs serve thousands; committee recommended maintaining program funding

"The program in general is all about removing seniors from living in isolation," Thompson said, and described peer-led technology and digital-photo classes and other free offerings housed at the Schutze Recreation Center.
Thompson said last year the city served roughly "over 2,000 unduplicated seniors" across fee-based and free programs and about 1,200 unduplicated participants in free offerings; many classes have wait lists of 15–20 people. Staff recommended maintaining the requested $15,000 to fund the coordinator position as part of the CDBG program allocation recommendation to Council.
