Committee backs ADA surfacing for Buckner and Greenway Terrace playgrounds with partial CDBG funding

Melissa Lipska, Parks and Forestry Operations Manager (presenting for Public Works), said the city proposes to use CDBG ADA funds to install pour-in-place rubber surfacing at two playgrounds to preserve ADA compliance. "The 2 playgrounds we are looking at doing next year are Buckner Park and Greenway Terrace Playgrounds," Lipska said, and noted that pour-in-place surfacing is more reliably compliant than mulch or wood chips.
Lipska said the playground project request totaled $226,000; staff recommended $128,962 to be paid from CDBG with the remaining balance proposed to be covered through the city's CIP budget cycle. The presentation closed with staff inviting questions and confirming the allocation recommendation will be included in the packet forwarded to City Council.
