Northampton reparations commission members promote inaugural Juneteenth celebration with vendors and music

Garrick Perry, a commissioner and city council representative, outlined plans for Northampton’s inaugural Juneteenth celebration, saying it will run Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include Black-owned vendors, a special focus on Black-owned breweries, and live performances. "There is going to be a number of vendors... Progression Brewery is doing a focus on black-owned breweries and wineries," Perry said, naming performers Pamela Means, Metali Banda and Kamiyah Diggs and noting Northampton Open Media will record the event.
Commission leadership urged commissioners to promote the celebration and said the commission will have a table where members can share information about their work. "We're feeling really confident and excited because this is gonna be a great kickoff," Perry said. Commissioners also discussed partnerships and social-media promotion, including work by Positively Africana and local press outreach.
The commission encouraged community involvement and volunteers to staff the table and to spread event details through social networks and local media. Organizers said the celebration will include music, art and community programming and asked members to help publicize the event in the days leading up to Saturday.
