Waukesha City staff reported that only one bid was received May 16 for the West Sunset Drive bridge/rehabilitation project and that the bid — $350,882.71 — exceeded the project's budget. At the May 22 meeting the board agreed with staff's recommendation to reject the sole bidder because prices were elevated and competition was limited.
A board member confirmed the project's location and the motion to reject the bid was moved, seconded and approved. Staff said rejecting the bid allows the city to reassess scope and rebid rather than proceed at above-budget cost.
