Levy likely short; board weighs athletics cuts, schedules budget briefing for Nov. 24

Superintendent Pete Peterson told trustees that preliminary returns showed the district's levy "is 38 short with 300 left to count," a result he said makes it likely the levy will not pass. He said the current 2025–26 budget had included athletic programs through the end of the school year, but that transportation was cut when the decision was made to continue middle school sports.
Mr. Peterson asked Executive Director of Finance John Hassell to prepare a budget presentation for the Nov. 24 meeting; he also said he had asked Cory Plager from D.A. Davidson for information about the effect of levy equalization. Board Chair Josh Skipper requested that the budget report be distributed by Friday, Nov. 21 so trustees could review the numbers ahead of the Nov. 24 meeting.
